OMG I’m Scared Of Imran Tahir

Seriously, I’m scared. The South Africans have been hiding Imran Tahir for months, with Graeme Smith dropping noises about a “secret weapon” in his arsenal. And thus far, he’s proven he’s worth the hype, helping the team to victories over Australia and Zimbabwe.

This guy might be the Ajantha Mendis of 2011. I just hope the Indians figure Tahir out quicker than they did Mendis — ironically, the World Cup’s ridiculous duration may be the thing that saves us.

  1. Tahir is an attacking leg spinner. He does not have any mystery balls. Mendis was difficult to read when he started out. He is an unorthodox bowler, unlike Tahir.

I don’t think that India will have a problem with Tahir. Plus, it will be interesting to see how Smith uses an attacking spinner in his squad… something South Africans are not used to having!

I agree completely, Shridhar. I didn’t mean to suggest Tahir bowled like Mendis, only that his relative “newness” to the international scene may cause batsmen problems, as Mendis did when he first burst on the scene.

But yes, if this guy is a typical leg-spinner, one hopes the Indian batsmen can see him off. One of the bigger questions of this Cup, I suppose.

I don’t think Tahir will cause problems to teams like Lanka and India…but he definitely will be effective against lesser teams…
