The Ring of Fire Returns

England tour India later this year, and the ECB just announced that India will return the favor in a few years (with 4 Tests to boot!). The last time England arrived in India, in 2006, they put up an exceptionally good fight, humiliating India into an all-too familiar 2nd-innings collapse. Matthew Hoggard, one of the key triggers of that deluge of wickets, explained later that he (and Andrew Flintoff) had led the team in a rousing rendition of Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire,” which made all the difference. Seeing as how the IPL insists on adding such a loud Bollywood-crazy soundtrack, I thought we’d give a little respect to an older master:

  1. Soulberry says:

I still want a minimum of three test matches in this forthcoming series. I have decided to boycott the series/cover it under protest otherwise.

Hoggard has consistently done well in the subcontinent, even though Hoggy has played more limited overs than tests here.

England are a far better visiting team to these parts as compared to the dark ages of nineties. They have to translate it into series wins to be comparable with earlier teams.

There hasn’t been a series win for England since David Gower’s team visited…and that was the series in which Azza debuted.

This could be the best time to stump India at home for they no longer are the home force they once were.
